About

Father, biologist, amateur musician, beer and bourbon connoisseur, writer – I have many titles! The best way to get to know me is to peruse my blog and skim through my C.V. I also write regularly at Deep Sea News and The Other 95%.

I currently work for the Duke University Marine Lab as a research technician. I’ve studied the animals surrounding deep sea hydrothermal vents for over 7 years. I’ve described 5 new species of deep sea critters and could have plenty more to keep me busy for an eternity! My Masters degree research was in quantitative community ecology and my current research is in fine-scale population genetics of hydrothermal vent animals at Manus Basin, southwest Pacific.
