There is a Light

A beautiful song of hope written by Duane Jarvis who recently passed away from colon cancer at the young age of 51. Duane was an inspirational musician and played with many famous, talented songwriters as well as his solo career. A very emotional songwriter, I can never do him justice, but I love playing this song – There is a light.

I recorded the sound separately in Garageband while recording video form my built in iSight camera on the macbook in iMovie. I wasn’t patient enough to do multiple takes, so here is me playing Jarvis on Epiphone Riviera, capoed up at the 5th fret. It’s a simple A E D for the verse and A D A E A E for the verse. I overdubbed a solo on top of the audio prior to finalizing the video.

Lyrics:
There is a light at the edge of the shadows
Show a little faith, try and believe
Better days ’round the corner
Drop down on your knees before you leave

There is a light at the edge of the shadows
There is a light

Must be some kind of balance
To the life that I lead
Throw it on a scale, try and weigh it
Wanna cry and laugh and bleed

There is a light at the edge of the shadows
There is a light

From the time I was born to the present
Always held the same ideal
Never wanted to know perfection
Never seemed very real

There is a light at the edge of the shadows
There is a light
