Samuel Adams Summer Ale

samadamsummeraleAs I’m working on this website, I’ve been enjoying Samuel Adams’ Summer Ale. Its not too bad, but I’m a hoppy guy. I like my beers flavorful and bitter, just like my… um.. nevermind.

It has a slightly pungent aroma, you can get a sense of a bit ‘o hops in there. There is a little tingle on the tongue, only slight carbonation, and about an inch of head in the bottle when it was opened cold. Although it claims to be a wheat with a citrusy hint to it, I didn’t really get that sense. At least, its not wheaty and citrusy like a real Hefeweizen. To me, it tastes more like an ale, but a really good ale with a distinct flavor. I enjoyed this beer. It was real nice cold after a long day at the job and a hot bike ride home. Certainly one I would buy again, but probably not in my regular stock. This beer was part of Sam Adams Summer Selection variety pack.

  • I like my beers flavorful and bitter, too, just like my (oh, is your lovely wife reading this?) Nice new site!

One of the specialy brews that I found this summer was a Summit seasonal: Horizon Red. It’s a nice ale, almost porterish in its sweet yet bitter aftertaste. Too bad its seasonal, though.

Oh – added to my blogroll and my feed. Found through twitter.

  • If you like hoppy and flavourful (note correct spelling) you should try ‘Hop Head’ from the Tree Brewing Company in Kelowna, British Columbia. A great full-bodied India Pale Ale with a hoppy aroma and taste that will knock your socks off.

    And found you through Twitter.

  • Any IPA from an Oregon brewery (http://www.portlandbeer.org/) will be to your taste, if you like it heavy on the hops. Me, I’m a lager and amber ale guy, so most Portland brews are too hoppy for me. Hops is a local crop, so it’s to be expected.
